May – Bike Polo Defense

In May, as a club, we are focusing on positioning, communication, and applying pressure the right way.

Why Defense Matters

Defense matters because it keeps a team in the game, even on a rough offensive day. Good defense isn't about aggression; it's about discipline: staying patient, holding position, and knowing when to challenge and when to hold your ground. This month is about building that patience together as a team.

Defense Focus for May

This month is about steady, observable habits:

  1. Marking opponents effectively

  2. Maintaining strong positioning

  3. Applying pressure without fouling

  4. Protecting the goal or passing lanes

  5. Communicating defensive switches

  6. Staying patient and disciplined

Bingo Card

This bingo card provides structure. It highlights the habits and skills we're focusing on this month. You will likely fill in many squares naturally simply by showing up to pick up, and playing bike polo.

What “Success” Looks Like

Success in May doesn't necessarily mean winning games or scoring goals. It can mean:

  • Holding your position instead of chasing the ball

  • Communicating a switch clearly with a teammate

  • Applying pressure without picking up a foul

  • Staying patient through a stretch where nothing seems to work

Come play with us at Gateway Park in Travelers Rest on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, or at Malvern Hills Park in Asheville on Sunday afternoons. Try a drill, fill in a BINGO square or two, or simply enjoy the company. Everyone's welcome.
